We’ll put our Best Heads on it…

  |   Mesmer, Workshop News   |   No comment

So after creating Fred for a customer looking for a short term marketing hit, we received lots of interest in him. Especially from one of our existing customers. They were really enamoured with Fred, and the possibilities offered by the mesmer system.

They also came to us with a great idea. 3 robot heads in row, each with a different aesthetic, but all performing the same routines. The idea was to explore how people react to robots, each with varying levels of human appearance. First in the line-up was SociBot. As the exhibition required 3 heads, there was no need to use the full bodied RoboThespian. SociBot is perfect for 3 reasons. Its small form factor, make an ideal buddy to a pair of Mesmer heads. It also has a very versatile face, with unlimited guises and a broad expression range, and of course it is the most financially accessible of our robots. This is important considering the customer wanted 3 robots. The second robot would be a naked version of Fred. When we say naked, we mean everything the original Fred had, but without any skin. Revealing his mechanical skull, vertebrae, eyelids, motors, 3D printed teeth and gums and circuit boards. The original Fred completes the unlikely trio of robots, with pore accurate skin and individually punched hair.

The most striking element of this exhibition is the side by side of the two Mesmer heads. So much so, we had to film the two together.

Bon Voyage!

The robots have only just left the factory, so haven’t been installed yet. We’ll be sure to update you on how they are settling into their new home. Once installed, you will be able to see 4 of our robots in one building!  RoboThespianSociBot, & 2 Mesmers.
